The famous Tossa Castle was built in 1187 by the abbot of Ripoll, who also gave the green light to build inside and outside the fortified area. Nowadays, however, we can no longer enjoy the castle tower as it was, since it was demolished in 1917 for the construction of the current Tossa lighthouse.
