Christmas is coming, and one of the stars that will adorn our homes will be the decorated Christmas tree. In Espinelves, the Fir tree Fair is held from 3 to 11 December, and it is a good technical stop returning from any of our houses if you go through the Eix Transversal road, as it is only 84 km away from Barcelona, 21 from Vic and 45 from the Costa Brava.
Just 30 minutes away of some of our houses, Espinelves is a town in Osona, but belonging to the Girona area. It is popular for its natural environment, its Romanesque church and its peculiar specialty in Christmas fir trees.
Espinelves is located 750m above sea level, in the largest forest in Catalonia, in the area of Montseny-Guilleries, between Coll de Ravell and Coll del Bruc. Surrounded by silent forests, full of peace and quiet where the landscapes are worth admiring.
One of its most characteristic annual festivals is the Christmas fir tree Fair. It dates back to 1981, and in it is shown the different varieties of fir trees that grow in Espinelves (especially the fir Joanis and Pica Excelsa), so that visitors can purchase and then decorate as a Christmas tree. Currently, you can also find a variety of natural and handmade crafts, different from those that you normally find in stores. You can also enjoy the various exhibitions (of medicinal herbs, painting, bonsai, tapestry, ceramics, miniature houses or utensils, sculptures, etc.) and shows that take place daily at the fair.
The river of Espinelves, fed by springs and streams, is an ideal place for fishing. Espinelves is a cozy village, equipped with all the necessary facilities, where people are friendly, simple and communicative.
All this makes Espinelves a privileged place, a Christmas nativity scene during the Fir tree Fair, where walking with your hat and gloves on feeling the smell of wood smoke from chimneys.
